Allan Yzereef jr. BA, MMus
Allan J. Yzereef earned his Masters’ degree in guitar performance from the University of Ottawa studying with renowned guitarist/composer Patrick Roux, his Bachelors’ degree from Laurentian University studying under world renowned guitarist Philip Candelaria and received his diploma from Cambrian College under the direction of both Philip Candelaria and Louis Trepanier. Allan has received numerous awards including a first place award at the Ontario provincial competition held in Hamilton, Ontario and second place award representing Ontario at the National Competition of Canada held in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Allan is currently on the music faculties of both Cambrian College and Laurentian University. In addition to his teaching commitments, he serves as the guitar coordinator for the annual Kiwanis music festival and producer of Guitars Alive Sudbury. A well known musician in the Sudbury community, he is often a featured performer in the Cambrian Concert Series, the Living with Lakes Concert Series, The Laurentian University Concert Series, The Bell Park Concert Series and City Hall. He has participated in fundraising concerts for the YWCA and performed in many community events, most notably at the inauguration of Sudbury mayor John Rodriguez. Other notable solo performances include: opening act for the Destino tenors Christmas concert, the presidential celebration hosted by Laurentian University president Domenic Giroux and soloist for the Sudbury Youth Orchestra Christmas concert (2010). Both area newspapers The Sudbury Star and The Northern Life have produced articles on Allan’s accomplishments. The Sudbury Guitar Trio was recently featured in Snap Magazine and The Sudbury Star.
In addition to his solo career, Allan is a member of three professional ensembles: The Gibson-Yzereef flute duo with flautist Rachel Gibson, the Sudbury Guitar Trio with guitarists Matthew Gould and Keenan Comartin and Duo Norteno with Keenan Comartin. On occasion, Allan has collaborated with violist Jamie Arrowsmith premiering Eric Marchiles Sonata for Viola and Guitar, flautist Myriam Valley, violinist Nicholas Ross, percussionist Ian Gibson, guitarist John Alac and the Sudbury Kampana bells.
Allan has released two independent rock albums with groups My Band and Another Story. Featured as opening acts for rock groups April Wine, The Classic Rock All Stars Band and David Wilcox at the annual Sudbury Summerfest festival, these groups have enjoyed touring Northern Ontario. A proud member of Dokis Bay First Nation, Allan Resides in Sudbury Ontario and enjoys watching Hockey and cooking.
