Keenan Comartin, OCT, BA, MMus
Keenan Comartin holds a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Ottawa, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, a Diploma in Music Performance from Cambrian College, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University. He has studied guitar with Patrick Roux, Philip Candelaria, Louis Trepanier, and Arturo Parra. He is especially interested in arranging and performing new music and chamber works. Keenan has been actively performing throughout Northern and Eastern Ontario for many years with a variety of groups including Duo Norteno and more recently Sudbury Guitar Trio. His contributions to this trio extends to arranging popular music for 3 guitars including an arrangement of The Final Countdown and songs from groups like the Beach Boys and David Bowie. Keenan is a co-producer of Guitars’ Alive Sudbury, an organization that promotes guitar education and performance in the Sudbury region. He teaches at Cambrian College and serves as an occasional teacher for elementary and secondary schools in Sudbury. His background in education and in music has led him to develop a new approach to teaching music classes using his own arrangements of popular/rock music and adapting materials to ensure all students can participate, create and enjoy music. Keenan currently lives in Sudbury, Ontario with his wife Cathy and two daughters, Lily and Sadie.
